Polydor Limited, Ireland was established in Dublin in 1970 as a Siemens subsiduary. It became one of the most active major labels in Ireland. When Pye shut down's it's Irish operation in late 1971, John Woods moved from Pye to Polydor as General Manager in 1972. Polydor distributed Pye releases from November 1972 onwards.

There are Irish pressings of most Polydor releases, by both Irish and international acts. There are also quite a few Ireland-only releases on Polydor, many of which would have had some distribution in the UK. Most of these are by Irish artists but a few are by International artists who had a particularly high profile in Ireland.

I've tried to distinguish between local and worldwide releases below but please note my approach is not exactly scientific and some of the assertions are the result of guesswork, however inspired.

In general, the 2078 (Singles) and 2904 (Albums) Series appear to have been releases initiated by Polydor Ireland for the Irish market.

I would love to hear from anyone who worked for Polydor Records, including salesmen like Freddie Talbot(?), Jimmy Morrissey (sales manager) or Vivian (?).

It's impossible to predict which Polydor releases had Irish pressings and which did not. It was based on supply and demand. For example, the following comes form the pages of Billboard in 1972: a very popular title in Ireland in the early 70s was the LP of the Band and Choir of the 11th Panzer Grenadier Division! When this was deleted by Polydor UK and Polydor Germany, meaning it could no longer be imported for sale in Ireland, Polydor Ireland repressed it in Ireland to meet demand!
