Just For Kicks

LP - Kick Records - KK-1 - IRL - 12/1979 The first sampler of new, mostly unsigned bands from Ireland (U2 had been signed by CBS, Berlin by Charisma, Sacre Bleu by Polygram and Square Meal by Scoff Records by the time this LP came out). Kick intended to release more Irish rock but it never came to pass. The label was based in Dublin. Side 1 U2 - Stories For Boys Berlin - Stop Stop DC Nien - Reptile Rocky De Valera & The Gravediggers - Lady Loves to Rock'n'Roll The Resistors - Service With A Smile Sacre Bleu - Mademoiselle Goodnight Side 2 The Atrix - Treasure on the Wasteland New Versions - Tango of Nerves Teen Commandments - Something's Better Than Nothing Zebra - Silent Partners Jaroc - Midnight Charmer Square Meal - Love Attack The liner notes are by DJ Dave Fanning: "Now that Dublin has proved to be as important a city on the international rock map as almost any other in Europe, the local scene has clearly benefitted in every way. The success of Thin Lizzy and the Boomtown Rats, the availability of pirate radio, the consolidation of Hot Press as the authorative rock journal, and this year's huge success of RTE Radio 2, have all combined to create a firm base to take us through the Eighties. From the Baggot to the Crofton, and McGonagles, to the Dandelion, all of these bands have helped to keep the music (a)live."
