From: Dublin
Active: mid-80s
Style: Pop
Lineup:
- Eamon Gibney - vocals
- Gerry O'Donovan - guitar
- Tommy Mangan
Bio:
The Allies were an Irish pop band active in the eighties who
released several singles and one LP on the Irish branch of K-Tel Records.
The Allies were the latest in a long line of groups led by
Gibney & Donovan
whose history dates back to the late 1960s. I mention them
here only so I can point out that they were not responsible for the collectable
new wave single "Plush Living"/"Computer" from 1979 which (despite it being
released on 'Harp' Records!) was by a Welsh band and is well worth tracking
down if Ultravox/Rikki & The Last Days of Earth is your thing. There is
no connection to the Irish band.
There was
also a US Allies from the Seattle area who self-released a decent powerpop LP in 1982,
but there is little chance of confusing them with this Irish band.
