From: Belfast
Active: 1976-1980
Style: Punk/Powerpop
Lineup:
- Paul Bowen - guitar/vocals
- Terry Sharpe - guitar/vocals
- Sean Martin - bass
- Liam L'Estrange - drums
Bio:
This Belfast punk/powerpop band recorded some exhilarating singles and a superb
album.
Formed in Belfast in 1976, moved to London late 1977 where they were seen by
Muff Winwood at the Hope & Anchor and subsequently signed to Epic Records.
The band's received it's highest exposure with the success of the brilliant
"War Stories" single in late 1979 and several TV appearances including Top
Of The Pops, but "War Stories" peaked at #51 in the UK and the LP failed
to chart. Subsequent singles failed to make an impact. Paul Bowen left in early
1980 and the remaining Starjets (plus Pat Gribbin) became Tango Brigade for one more
single before splitting in late 1980. CBS released them from their contract.
The Starjets recorded BBC Radio 1 sessions for Kid Jensen and Mike Read.
More details about these appreciated.
Terry Sharpe & Pat Gribben later formed the poppier The Adventures
(1984-1993) who pale in comparison. Sean Martin was later in
Jake Burns & The Big Wheel.
