Bio:
Formed in Denmark by Gerry Leonard (ex Spies,
Above The Thunderclouds) and Donal Coughlan
(ex The Departure). With Wayne Sheehy (ex Driveshaft,
1990, Cactus World News) on drums.
Ambient pop/rock/folk, another exercise in "big sound" with spooky guitar, which
led to comparisons to U2 and Cry Before Dawn -- not to mention Simple Minds,
Tears For Fears and the Blue Nile. Give me The Spies any day! Having said that,
the album is successful on it's own terms on about half the tracks, which is
a good average for this sort of thing, and this LP deserves to be better known.
In late 1992, the duo were reportedly demoing songs for a second album scheduled
for 1993 but this never materialised and the band split in 1994.
Gerry Leonard uses the name Spooky Ghost for some of his projects and is now David Bowie's
guitarist. Wayne Sheehy joined Ronnie Wood's band and has toured and recorded with
many big names including Bo Diddley, Robert Palmer and Van Morrison. He also owns
Ocean Studios Ireland.
During the 80s I remember seeing on a number of occasions a fantastic guitarist among the
buskers on Grafton Street. He was usually sitting on a speaker playing electric guitar
though some kind of delay pedal(s) to fantastic effect. Was this Gerry Leonard?
