Ray Dolan

From: IRL

Active:

Style: folk, singersongwriter

Bio:

Ray Dolan began playing the folk clubs in Dublin in the early 70s. One of his songs "Hey Friend" was covered by Tír na nÓg on their debut album released in 1971. Dolan played in a duo with James Connolly which later became a quintet with Tony Boland, Terry Hanlon, George Brady. This group was called Heir and was active during 1973-74. I have no more information about this band. Dolan & Connolly both guested on Anne Byrne's final studio album "Come by the Hills" (Hawk Records, 1974) along with Paddy Roche, Pat Armstrong, Michael Colbert and Una Moore. The album included a cover of Ray's 'Constantly Changing'.

Ray went solo in 1974 and signed to EMI for whom he record just one album, "Restless Night", released in 1975. This features contributions from Sonny Condell and Leo O'Kelly of Tír na nÓg. Leo O'Kelly also produced. A single was taken from the album, and Ray appeared on the BBC TV series "The Camera & The Song" (though he's not on the LP, alas).
