High Society

From: IRL

Active:

Style: Pop

Lineup:

Bio:

Described on ebay as "powerpop" with a female singer... but just look at that photo, it's Shakatak! The band had a regular gig at the Cliff Castle Hotel in Dalkey where they drew a good crowd. Their jazzy pop sound is not well represented by their single, according to fans. Part of the reason for this is that "Success" was a brand new song which had not been played live yet when they recorded it. The B-side is better, but still not all that it could have been. A wasted opportunity. The reviews were not kind:

"High Society falter through a misdirected arrangement, an intrusive guitar part that's a good idea in the wrong song. They start promisingly with an engaging lyric partly sung by Christine Sweetman, but then stutter. Next time they need to be more incisive and, crucially, more informed."--review from Hot Press

Note this High Society is not related to the band that released the "I Never Go Out In The Rain" single. Brian O'Grady left to join Errol Walsh in The Business.
