Cathal Dunne

From: Cork

Active: 70s/80s
Style: Singer-songwriter, Pianist

Bio:

Born in 1955 in Cork where he attended the Cork School of Music. He made some recordings with Seán Ó Sé in 1974 and won the Castlebar International Song Contest the same year and subsequently toured with a band. In 1976 he represented Ireland at the Yamaha Music Festival with his own composition "Lover, Not a Wife". Guy Robinson (of EMI Records) was his manager. He recorded an LP for EMI in 1977 titled "Bad Boy".

In 1978 Cathal teamed up with Stateside, becoming their lead singer. Stateside included guitarist Andreas Grimminger, who later found fame in Zerra 1! Cathal represented Ireland in the Eurovision in 1979 and then formed his own band The Formula, who he led until 1982. He emigrated to the USA in 1983 where he launched a successful career on the cabaret circuit, changing the spelling of his name to the more phonetically friendly Cahal Dunne.
