Introduction
The purpose of this website is to document as many Irish rock bands as possible,
particularly those from the Punk and New Wave era.
At first I adopted a strict policy for inclusion: bands had
to be from the right era (1976-1985 approx) and had to be 'punk' to some degree.
These criteria were relaxed in later site updates to include indie bands from the late 1980s as
well as pop-rock, metal, hard rock and new wave-tinged mainstream releases.
The cut-off point for inclusion is now 1990 approx. This starting point was rolled
back to include earlier bands
from the 1960s & early 1970s, including folk artists and those drawing on traditional
forms. There are even one or two showbands here. Our current policy is inclusive rather
than exclusive
The original inspiration for site
organization was George DeFoe's International
Discography of New Wave book, an invaluable resource in the days before
internet. Ideally each band listed should include a bio with photo(s), lineup(s),
links to related bands, a full discography with cover scans (front and back)
and a brief description of the records. There is still a long way to go.
Please check the FAQ for answers to some of
the commonest questions I get asked. I am always well behind with email,
so if you have contacted me recently with information or updates and I haven't
replied yet, then I apologise for the
delay. I will get back to you as soon as possible. If you wish to send me
something, please see the Submission Guidelines
for details of contact addresses, etc.
