Bio:
Stockton's Wing were a folk group who underwent a remarkable transformation from
the traditional Irish music of their 1978 debut LP via a transitional second album 'Take A Chance' [1980]
which introduced songwriter Mike Hanrahan to the band, to the hushed acoustic folk pop/rock of their
third album 'Light In The Western Sky' in 1982, which featured another new member, Australian Steve Cooney.
This was a huge hit in Ireland and spawned two hit singles,
'Beautiful Affair' and 'Walk Away'. They couldn't follow it up. The band expanded to include drums (Fran Breen) and
keyboards (Peter Keenan). A live album emerged in 1985. A disappointing
studio album 'Full Flight' came out the following year on Polydor. It is plagued by 80s production sins and suffered from
horrible drum and keyboard sounds. 'Celtic Roots Revival' was better, but essestially their best work was
behind then. The band dropped the bass/drums backing in 1991 and returned to a more acoustic sound.
They recorded well into the 1990s.
