Notes:
An essential companion to the debut LP. This self-titled album, often referred to as the
"Dublin Gas Co" LP because of the background image on the front cover, contains early
demo versions of five tracks that appeared on the debut LP, plus both sides of the first
CBS single (S 4893), plus two previously unreleased tracks.
There is some confusion about it's date of release. It's undated apart from (p) 1970 on the labels.
The matt orange CBS label was still in use as late as 1975, so in principle this LP can dates from anywhere
between 1970-75.
Further confusion stems from the fact that it was assigned the same catalogue number
as the debut LP, an insane decision. Being selt-titled (or self-titled) while the title of debut
was just the shortened "Skid" makes distinguishing the two albums tricky. Hence the Dublin Gas Co
name it acquired over the years. The only way to distinguish the discs is to check the track
listing on the labels. Over the years I've come across copies of this LP housing copies of 'Skid'.
In fact some people think it is 'Skid' in an alternative cover. It's not but you can't blame record
(re)sellers from matching up the wrong LP and cover when the catalogue numbers match.
I've yet to read a satisfactory explanation of the CBS catalogue number fiasco. Why would
CBS issue a different album with the same number? Was it intended to replace the debut in the
CBS back catalogue? Was it something to do with a dispute between Brish Shiels and Clive Davis?

CD ... details
Skid Row (1970-71)
This covers the periopd with lead guitarist Paul Chapman, who replaced Gary Moore when
the latter left after recording (most of) the third LP.
The album was recorded again with Chapman on guitar, but these
recordings have never been released.
Chapman is an excellent guitarist, best known for his time with Universe, Lone Star and UFO.
These recordings should be unearthed.
Paul Chapmman has a fantastic website
where he takes the time to answer many questions -- check it out.
