Best known nowadays for the rhythm section becoming Rory Gallagher's Band. There are no known recordings.

Ferguson, McAvoy (on guitar) & O'Neill had all been in an earlier band called Pride (1966-68) with Tom Kidd (vocals) and Don Donaghy (bass). The band changed lineup a couple of times. Dave Harper (keyboards) replaced guitarist Jim Ferguson, altering their sound. Harper was subsequently replaced by Chris Morrison (keyboards & oboe). Brendan O'Neill was replaced by Wilgar Campbell.

Deep Joy supported Taste on their last UK tour in late 1970. When Taste split on 31st December 1970, Deep Joy followed suit with Gerry McAvoy & Wilgar Campbell joining Rory Gallagher's new band and backing him on his solo releases, Wilger until 1972's "Live In Europe", McAvoy through the decade and beyond.
