An odd compilation, but one you should buy. On the one hand, it is wonderful to finally see someone actually getting a compilation like this together, to see The Threat, Chant! Chant! Chant!, Roger Doyle/Operating Theatre, etc., appear on a high quality vinyl compilation LP. But there are some head-scratching inclusions, in particular Dogmatic Element and the Major Thinkers, both of whom stick out like sore thumbs. Good tracks in other settings perhaps, but they don't belong here ('Just Friends' as album opener borders on the bizarre). The track selection elsewhere is odd too, with Stano, Chant! Chant! Chant! and The Peridots represented by weaker efforts, while surely something from the second Virgin Prunes single would have suited better? As such, it appears to be the Post Punk side of this compilation that loses it's way. But the electronics side is another story. The artists to benefit the most from inclusion in this compilation are undoubtedly Tripper Humane - someone do a triple-LP archive set immediately! - and the synth-pop of the SM Corporation, while both of Operating Theatre's contributions are outstanding, which comes as no surprise. So let's hope this one sells like hotcakes and Finders Keepers do a second volume with better tracks (with better artwork!)
